Preventive Workshops
HOW TO AVOID THE TRAPS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
Since 2002, Društvo Ključ – Center for Combating Human Trafficking has been implementing the preventive program “Vijolica – How to Avoid the Traps of Human Trafficking” in primary schools across Slovenia.
The project is intended for adolescents aged 13 to 15. We inform them about the risks of deception, abuse, and coercion into prostitution by a third party (human traffickers and pimps) and educate them on self-protection strategies and measures to help them avoid dangerous situations. The 45-minute workshops include a five-minute film based on real-life stories.
The project is conducted in a three-pronged approach. In addition to adolescents, their parents are also involved in the project. During this stage of adolescence, parents often lose touch with their children, which is one of the reasons they may realize too late that their child has become a victim. We inform parents about the risks of deception, abuse, and coercion, and how to recognize the signs of such exploitation. We also provide information about the procedures that follow the disclosure and reporting to the relevant government institutions and to Društvo Ključ.
The third target group includes teaching and professional staff, as well as all school employees, as they are often the first to notice changes in the behavior of a potential victim of trafficking (such as school absences, mood and behavioral shifts, activities around the school, etc.).
The workshops are conducted separately for each group, and the role of the participants is active—we seek their input and later provide age-appropriate professional explanations. Our experience shows that it is crucial to conduct workshops for all three target groups, as this enables effective response in the event of human trafficking.
The price of a workshop is €100 + travel expenses. When ordering five workshops, one is free of charge.

HOW TO RECOGNIZE AND AVOID HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
Telesnica workshops are an upgrade of the Vijolica workshops and have been conducted since 2012. They are intended for adolescents in the first years of secondary school, their parents, and school staff. These workshops are dynamic and use the online platform www.telesnica.si, through which we present the issue using concrete examples, engage in discussion, answer all participants’ questions, and equip young people with self-protection strategies. Young people aged 15 and up are particularly vulnerable to becoming victims of trafficking.
Like Vijolica, the Telesnica project is implemented in a three-pronged manner. In addition to adolescents, their parents are involved, as this is the period when children are growing up and parental connection may weaken, often leading to late recognition that their child is a victim. We inform parents about the risks of deception, abuse, and coercion, and how to recognize signs of exploitation. They are also informed about the procedures following disclosure and how to report to the relevant government institutions and to Društvo Ključ.
The third target group includes school teaching and professional staff and other school employees, as they are often the first to notice behavioral changes in potential trafficking victims (absences, mood and behavior shifts, activities around the school, etc.).
Each workshop lasts 45 minutes. The price of a workshop is €100 + travel expenses. When ordering five workshops, one is free of charge.
