On Friday 18 October 2024, to mark European Anti-Trafficking Day, we organised a professional conference titled The abuse of children for prostitution in Slovenia.
Our thanks again to all the speakers who kindly accepted our invitation, contributed their presentations, shared their experience with us and answered participants' questions. Thank you to State Secretary and National Anti-Trafficking Coordinator Helga Dobrin, who opened the conference; to Minister of Justice Andreja Katič, for recognising the importance of prostitution and, in particular, the exploitation of children in prostitution, and for staying with us throughout; and to all the speakers who presented experience from practice and shared telling cases as well as difficulties, constraints and proposals for tackling the issue effectively — Jerneja Munc, President of Združenje za Moč; Breda Merela, educator at the Višnja Gora specialist centre; Petra Vladimirov, educator at the Kranj specialist centre; Jasmina Smajić Šupuk, professional worker at the Ljubljana Social Work Centre; Dr Urban Horvat, child psychiatrist at the University Psychiatric Clinic Ljubljana; Mirjam Kline, Supreme State Prosecutor; Dr Tinkara Srnovršnik, gynaecologist and online counsellor at tosemjaz.net and Anja Mrkalj Kastelic, Senior Criminal Investigation Inspector at the General Police Directorate.
Thank you also to everyone who attended, for recognising how important this issue is and for the part your work will play in better identifying children abused for prostitution in Slovenia.
For anyone who would like to watch the conference, the recording is available here:
The conference was organised with the support of the Ministry of the Interior, the City of Ljubljana and FIHO — Foundation for Financing Disability and Humanitarian Organisations.
