  • How do I get out of the ThB (trafficking in human beings) trap

  • Instructions for the professional public

Human trafficking is most often (but not always!) associated with two terms: ABROAD and LABOR. Typical stories of people who have survived human trafficking almost always revolve around a tempting offer to work abroad, which turns into sexual exploitation, hard physical work, servitude … The cases of forced marriages, adoptions, organ trafficking etc. may be different, as traffickers often kidnap their victims, buy children from their biological parents, promise women rich husbands and good life, etc.

THEREFORE BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL IN THE FOLLOWING CASES:

Travel: tell someone about the journey; be reachable on a mobile phone; if you are traveling abroad, save the numbers of Slovenian embassies, police and organizations that help victims of crimes; take care of personal documents – do not give them to anyone, make copies of them and hide them in different places in your clothes, bag, backpack.

Work abroad: find out about the source of information regarding employment and about the employer; negotiate on the terms of the work and request a contract before starting to work. Society Ključ can help verify the credibility and reliability of the employer and review the employment contract.

Online chat rooms: they allow users to be anonymous, so you may encounter criminals. Be careful before face-to-face meetings; never be alone on first meeting, arrange to meet in a public, populated place; tell your parents, friends, acquaintances the location of the meeting.

Infatuation: criminal gangs have in their ranks so called loverboys, whose job  is to seduce girls. They flatter them, promise them a better life, give them gifts and gradually get them emotionally attached. They  have money even if they don’t work. In the end, the girl is handed over to the traffickers.

MAYBE SOME OF THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS APPLY TO YOU:

  • you are ready to do casual work even without an employment contract
  • you are in a life crisis and would prefer to go somewhere and leave everything behind
  • you want adventures, travel, meeting new people,
  • you trust other people and fall in love quickly
  • you don’t check information and believe other people
  • you have got a tempting job offer, but you don’t know the employer
  • everything related to work and/or travel will be taken care of by others.

IF YOU ANSWERED YES TO EVEN ONE OF THESE STATEMENT, YOU ARE IN DANGER OF BECOMING A VICTIM OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING!
